Performing

James maintains an active performing schedule around San Diego and the United States. He plays frequently with the San Diego Symphony and San Diego Opera, as well having performed with the Kent-Blossom Festival Orchestra, the Orford Festival Orchestra, and the Canton Symphony Orchestra. He made his solo debut in 2004, performing for the La Jolla Music Society’s Prelude Young Artist Series, and in 2008, he made his solo orchestral debut with the Roosevelt University Orchestra playing the Nielsen Concerto. He was honored to perform the world premiere of a new work, the Flute Sonata by David DeBoor Canfield, and has been featured as a solo performer with the Mesa College Jazz Band, the SD Flute Guild Summer Flute Camp.

James has participated in many competitions, winning second place at San Diego Flute Guild Young Artist Competition (‘11), first place at the Tuesday Musical Association in Ohio (‘11), and four-time winner at the Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego (‘06, ‘09, ‘11, ‘12), as well as several scholarships and educational competitions.
